Lesley's Story

"To be told that your husband/partner has cancer is devastating. To then be told that there is no cure for the particular cancer is the worst moment you have ever experienced. However, you know that you have to stay strong for your husband and all of the family. There is then the process of coping with treatment in an endeavour to prolong life. Another extremely difficult time to stay strong and support your husband as the treatment causes him really nasty side effects.

Pam was there for us with her wealth of knowledge and experience. She had so many tips and advice on ways to help to cope with some of the side effects and at the same time how to cope with our emotions. It was so nice to be able to talk to someone who was not emotionally invested in our situation and that I knew I could freely discuss my situation without having to worry about upsetting.

During the last few weeks of my husband’s life, Pam knew exactly the right things to say and do. I could discuss with her all my fears and worries. She made sure I was in touch with all the sources of help available to us.

Since my husband’s death, Pam has continued her strong support. Reassuring me that my grief, thoughts and doubts about myself, are all completely normal and to know that I need to take life one day at a time. Some days are good and some days are not so good.
